Instructor Biography

Roy Calica

Master Sergeant Calica reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California on 28 August 2000.  Upon graduating, he reported to Marine Combat Training (MCT), Golf Company, Camp Pendleton, CA.  Upon completion of MCT, he reported to Military Police School.

In April 2001, he checked into MWSS-373, MCAS Miramar and was assigned to the Provost Marshal’s Office (PMO), H&HS.  Upon promotion to Lance Corporal on 1 October 2001, he served as a Gate Sentry, Patrolman, 911 Dispatcher, and Fire Team Leader.  In January 2003, Lance Corporal Calica deployed to Al Jaber, Kuwait with MWSS-373 in support of OIF.  On 1 February 2003, Lance Corporal Calica was promoted to Corporal.  In March 2003, Corporal Calica arrived at Jalebah, Iraq and served as a Vehicle Team Leader, Assistant Convoy Security Commander, and Military Police Operations Center NCOIC.  In June 2003, Corporal Calica returned to Al Jaber, Kuwait and augmented the 332d Air Expeditionary Wing Security Forces Squadron, US Air Force.  While augmenting the 332d Air Expeditionary Wing Security Forces Squadron, Corporal Calica served as a Squad Leader and Vehicle Team Leader.

In October 2003, Corporal Calica reenlisted and received orders to HQSVC Bn, MCRD San Diego, CA.  Corporal Calica was assigned to the PMO where he served as a Patrol Supervisor, Dispatcher, Armory Custodian, and Desk Sergeant.  Corporal Calica was promoted to Sergeant on 1 May 2004, and began serving as a Watch Commander.  In January 2005, Sergeant Calica reported to Sergeants Course at MCAGCC Twenty-nine Palms, CA.  Sergeant Calica received a Certificate of Achievement for graduating as the Honor Graduate.  He was also appointed to the President’s Honor Roll and was awarded the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Writing Award.

In August 2005, Sergeant Calica reported to the Basic Recruiter Course, MCRD San Diego, CA.  Upon graduation, Sergeant Calica was appointed to the Director’s Honor List and was assigned to RS Seattle.  Sergeant Calica was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant on 2 July 2007, and finished his tour as a Canvassing Recruiter and Substation SNCOIC.

Staff Sergeant Calica checked into HQSVC Bn, MCB Hawaii in October 2008.  As a member of the PMO, Staff Sergeant Calica held the billets of Watch Commander, Platoon Sergeant, Camp Smith District SNCOIC, and Operations Chief.  In March 2009, Staff Sergeant Calica attended the resident SNCO Academy Career Course, where he was appointed to the President’s Honor Roll and awarded a Certificate of Achievement for graduating number 3 out of 124 students.

In August 2011, Staff Sergeant Calica checked into MP Support Company, I MHG, where he was assigned as the Platoon Commander of General Support Platoon.  In January 2012, Staff Sergeant Calica deployed to Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan where he served as the Operations Chief at the PMO.  Staff Sergeant Calica redeployed and served as a Platoon Sergeant and Company Gunnery Sergeant with 1st Law Enforcement Bn, Camp Pendleton, CA.

In September 2013, Gunnery Sergeant Calica checked into the SNCO Academy, Camp Pendleton, CA where he served as a Faculty Advisor, Chief Faculty Advisor, and Master Faculty Advisor.  In December 2016, Gunnery Sergeant Calica checked into H&HS, MCAS Beaufort, SC and assumed the duties as the Parris Island District SNCOIC, for the PMO.  In January 2019, Master Sergeant Calica checked into HQ Bn, MCAGCC Twenty-nine Palms, CA and assumed duties as the Operations Chief for the PMO.

In February of 2020, Master Sergeant Calica checked into CLB-23, 4th MLG, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA.  Master Sergeant Calica retired after 20 years of faithful service on 26 June 2020.  On 1 July 2020, retired Master Sergeant Calica began his current employment as a Human Resources Consultant with the Washington State Department of Health.

Master Sergeant Calica’s personal decorations include the Purple Heart, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star, and the Good Conduct Medal with one silver star.

Master Sergeant Calica is married to Jillian Calica with three sons, Reece (16), Rylan (14), and RJ (9).
