Firefighting and EMS Careers
EARN SCIENCE, PHYSICAL EDUCATION, AND CTE CREDIT TOWARD GRADUATION WHILE PREPARING FOR A REWARDING CAREER RIGHT OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL!
Program Description: Learn the skills necessary to pursue a career in the fire service and to be an integral part of a community emergency response team. Taught by firefighting professionals, students are introduced to firefighter training, fire prevention, inspection and investigation, alarm systems, dispatching, CERT, and emergency medical services. In this program, students will drill at a fire station conveniently located near New Market Skills Center in full bunker gear to gain further experience of what this profession has to offer. This is a realistic mix of hands-on training and academic learning that closely imitates a career in this exciting field.
High School Equivalency Credits: Students earn 3.0 credits per year allocated as 1.0 Lab Science, 1.0 Physical Education, and 1.0 Career Technical Education. See how these credits satisfy graduation requirements in the Program of Study.
Certifications: CPR/First Aid/AED card, Bloodborne Pathogens certification
College Credits: Credits available through Bates Technical College: up to 13 credits
Students who successfully complete the program and meet the college grading requirements, will be eligible to apply.
